About
This book blog of mine began (back in 2009) as a sort of site to keep track of the books I read for the 50 Book Challenge. It started off as a sort of general hub for posts I make about the books I read, which is why my first blog posts, the oldest ones, are shorter and in a somewhat different format from what I do these days. That was back when I didn’t really know what I was doing, heh.
Currently my blog is a sort of archive for book reviews only. I used to participate in memes and book blogging community stuff but due to time constraints (nursing school, sigh) I don’t really have time for that anymore. Hard enough finding time just to read these days!
I read and review strictly for entertainment, I’m not trying to be a professional reviewer, and I’m also not trying to become a writer or anything. I just like reading. Sometimes I read a lot, sometimes I don’t read as much, but I just like reading. I review books based on how much I enjoyed it and the “ratings” are not to be used as comparison between books. I’m especially interested in point of view, time manipulation and characterization in books (thanks to a stylistics course I took). Sometimes I may have a lot to say about a book; sometimes I might have very little. But I try to always give a summary, explain how I found out about the book, and explain why I did or did not like it … with varying degrees of success, probably.
The covers I post up of each book are the versions of the book I read (some books have multiple covers, so I like to post up the one I actually read).
About The Reviews
Just some I want to say about my reviews/opinions/whatever-you-want-to-call-them: These posts about books are all my opinions about the books I read. I completely understand if you have an opposite opinion of a book. That’s cool, it really is, I’m not just saying that. There is no book in the world where everyone will have one unanimous opinion about it, good or bad. Every book has its lovers and haters. If you trust my opinions and ratings, then thank you very much. However, with all that said, if you disagree, there really is NO NEED to bash myself or other commenters on my blog. I mean, feel free to tell me your own opinion of a book, I’m not saying you can’t disagree with me here, but name calling and/or insinuating insults isn’t allowed here. If you do, I will either delete your comment or edit it. Let’s keep things friendly here, m’kay?
Me & Books
I’m a 23 year old female living in Canada. I enjoy reading (duh!), video gaming (currently I like The Sims 3 and League of Legends). I recently graduated with my BA in English (Language) and am currently studying for my BSc in Nursing. I also run a personal blog (that doesn’t get updated anywhere as frequently as my book blog, haha) over here at Royal-Hours.net and a Sims 3 blog over here.
What kind of books do I enjoy reading? Well, I’ll read almost anything, from the 9-12 section to YA to adult books (I don’t read any books that are intended for children younger than 9, heh). I will read anything from serious novels to fun, chick-lit ones. I like to think I have a broad range of interests. I go through phases though — might be binging on YA one month and historical fiction the next. Genre-wise, I like fantasy (especially urban fantasy), historical and general fiction. I also like to read books that movie companies are thinking about/are turning into films. I’m a big fan of watching movies, but if there’s a book version, I want to read the book first! Even if the movie turns out bad, I don’t really care, I love books being turned into movies.
